Mayfair Mall’s New Policy

Filed under: General — Tara @ 8:55 am

If you live in or around Milwaukee, you’ve heard of the recent scuffles at Mayfair Mall and how police are trying to figure out a way to deal with it. Well, as a “normal” shopper/movie-goer at Mayfair, I’m highly turned off by their soon-to-be new policy.

Mayfair to Require I.D.’s , Target Gangs
WAUWATOSA - Mayfair Mall plans on taking a dramatic step to cut down on violence by requiring people to show a photo ID at the door.

The program will be implemented in April and will likely be enforced on Friday and Saturday nights.

TODAY’S TMJ4 has learned most people under 30 will be carded. Those over the “required” age will be given a wrist band and allowed inside the mall. Mayfair has not decided what the “required” age will be.

People who do not meet the “required” age will have to be with an adult who is 21 or older.

So if the required age is 18, a 19-year-old would be allowed inside the mall. But the 19-year-old would not be able to bring in a 16-year-old friend. The 16-year-old would need to be accompanied by someone 21 or older.

The rules also require anyone underage to stay with the adult the entire time. Mayfair plans on posting security guards at every entrance. Shoppers at Macy’s or Boston Store will not have to show an ID to enter, but will need to show an ID once leaving the department store and entering the main mall.

So, I’m ok with getting carded at a bar still. I’m almost 28 years old and I can see that I’m still “close” to 21 and they are just covering their butts. Alcoholic consumption, afterall, has strict laws regulating it. I’m even ok with getting carded for an R movie at the theater (although that is pretty rare nowadays).

But getting carded to enter a mall and possibly having to wear a wristband to do my shopping? They’re out of their minds! Mayfair is the closest mall to my house, but I’m tempted to drive the extra distance to head out to Bayshore or Southridge if this gets put in place. No, I suppose in the scheme of things, it’s not that big of a deal to be carded for yet another thing, but it’s an extra annoyance that I don’t think I need to deal with. Are there laws against me shopping at a mall like there are at bars or the theater? I didn’t think so. I also get that I’m not the person they are trying to target with this new law… and I don’t have a solution to the problems at Mayfair. I just want to complain. :)

Does this bother anyone else?

Why Spend the Money?

Filed under: General — Tara @ 10:38 am

I saw this headline/teaser in the paper today:

MMSD to study source of fecal matter
MMSD will spend up to $450,000 to expand its investigation into the sources of human fecal bacteria found in storm sewers discharging to local Lake Michigan beaches and the Milwaukee, Menomonee and Kinnickinnic rivers.

I can tell them exactly what the source of fecal matter is–people going to the bathroom. Do I get the $450,000?

Get Well, Bo

Filed under: General — Tara @ 8:47 am

I heard on the news last night that Bo Black was in critical condition in an Arizona hospital. I knew she had been sick, but I guess I didn’t realize she was THAT sick. Turns out she had a stroke and has had a few surgeries now to try and replace it.

My thoughts are with her and her family (gotta cheer for her husband, former Brewers coach, Tom Trebelhorn!). Bo Black brought a lot to Milwaukee in her tenure with Summerfest. Being such a strong, powerful woman in a time when women leaders wasn’t very common, she’s really laid the path for future woman leaders. So… get well. The party in Milwaukee won’t be the same without you!

Great Sale at Carroll Bookstore

Filed under: Plain Ol' Funny Stuff — Tara @ 4:38 pm

I think I’m beginning to see why college pricing was a “steal” back when I was in school compared to now. It goes all the way down to pricing in the bookstore. Check out this wild sale they have going on right now (you have to look closely at the pricing)…

Favre Returns for 2007 Season!

Filed under: Wisconsin Sports — Tara @ 11:01 am

Yeah!!!!

SUN HERALD EXCLUSIVE
Favre to play in 2007
By AL JONES
SUN HERALD

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre will return for the 2007 season, he told the Sun Herald in an exclusive interview this morning.

“I am so excited about coming back,” he said. “We have a good nucleus of young players. We were 8-8 last year and that’s encouraging.

“My offensive line looks good, the defense played good down the stretch. I’m excited about playing for a talented young football team.”

Favre, the former Hancock North Central and Southern Miss star, told the team about his return this morning. He said he’d made the decision after consulting with his family at home in Hattiesburg and that he knew he wanted to come back in the locker room after the season finale against the Chicago Bears.

Favre completed 56 percent of his passes in 2006, throwing for 18 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. The Packers finished 8-8 after a disappointing 2005 season where Favre threw 29 interceptions and had his first losing season as a starter.

Green Bay was in the playoff race until the final week of this season.

He needs one more victory to tie John Elway for most as a quarterback. Favre has completed more passes (5,021) than anyone in NFL history and needs seven touchdown passes to pass Dan Marino’s record of 420.

Favre became the Green Bay Packers’ quarterback three games into the 1992 season, and hasn’t missed a start.

Favre’s streak of 237 consecutive regular-season games started has been compared to Cal Ripken’s record in baseball, and his three NFL Most Valuable Player awards put him in elite company.

In 1996, Favre was the guiding force to the Packers’ first NFL championship in nearly 30 years. Green Bay beat the New England Patriots 35-21 in the Louisiana Superdome, just an hour’s drive or so from his home in Hancock County.

“It’s a great feeling,” Favre said after the game. “The fans have been great and my hometown has been wonderful. It would be great anywhere, but it adds a little bit to it, doing it here, so close to home.”

Favre and the Packers got back to the Super Bowl the next season, but lost to John Elway and the Denver Broncos 31-24. They never got back to the NFC championship game, but remained the best team in the NFC Central, which became the NFC North when the NFL expanded to 32 teams in 2002.

Favre spent his rookie season with the Atlanta Falcons, playing in just two games, before being traded to the Packers in 1992.

“In my mind, I remember saying this is my last opportunity,” Favre said. “Whether that was true or not, I kind of put that pressure on myself.”

And Now… A Story About Erica Peterson

Filed under: Inappropriate Acts of my Friends — Tara @ 9:28 am

I figured I haven’t posted anything lately under the column of “inappropriate acts of my friends,” so I thought I’d share one…

To understand the story, here are the players.
Amy=Erica’s sister
Mom=Erica’s Mom
Sam=Erica’s nephew, Amy’s son
Lenore=Erica’s niece, Amy’s daughter
Auntie Erica=Erica

Amy was telling me that last week she and Mom were talking to Sam about siblings and explaining that Lenore is Sam’s sister, etc. Amy then told Sam that Auntie Erica was her sister and followed that by asking “and where is Auntie Erica living at now?” After a little pause Sam answered “At Target…..eating wings”.

Amy said mom about fell off the couch laughing. I guess for a 2 year old Sam knows his Auntie pretty well. :)
