Land of 10,000 Lakes Isn’t That Cool
So, I’m in Minnesota this week for work. Just got here today and I’ve noticed a few things.
1. Minnesota has “Land of 10000 Lakes” on their license plates. Neill told me once that Wisconsin actually has more lakes than that, and he’s right. According to the Minnesota DNR website, Minnesota actually has 11,842 lakes. A lot of lakes. But, I checked out Wisconsin’s site and check this out: Wisconsin has 15,081 lakes!! I wasn’t a math major, but that’s advantage Wisconsin by over 3200 lakes! How come we aren’t known as the land of 15,000 lakes then? No, instead we are called “America’s Dairyland” even though California outproduces us. This doesn’t make any sense…
2. No one speeds. I’m not a huge speed-demon on the roads, but the speed limit here is 60 mph. I was going 63 and BLOWING past people. So, obviously they aren’t even going 60. Either they know something I don’t, or Minnesota people are in no hurry to get anywhere.
3. I have been chosen as “Guest of the Day.” Yeah, that’s right. My hotel is giving me a complimentary dinner or breakfast in their restaurant OR room service AND a complimentary in-room movie. Sweet!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a movie to watch…
So what “adult feature” did you pick for your in room movie?

I put the child privacy on my tv (I’m only 27), so no adult features for me!

Haven’t been here for a while, Tara. Nice to see you are keeping up the place!

Hmm well tara it sounds like Wisconsin was a little behind in picking their slogan.
Obviously the minnesotians are a bit quicker than the Wisconsinites when it comes to slogans
since they aren’t worried about racing to the next bar!!! Maybe Wisconsin should be known as the “The Beer State!!!”

But if you subtract all of Neill’s beer spills, it’s only something like 14,989 lakes.

What you say is true, however lets clairify.
the 11,842 lakes in Minnesota are only those of 10 acres or more.
from this site
http://www.state.mn.us/
Number of lakes (over 10 acres): 11,842 (4,967,510 acres).
I could not find Wisconsins definition of a lake anywhere, nor could I find total acreage of lakes in WI.
If you can find it, I would really like to know.
Texas on the other hand. I want to say counts a body of water larger than 3 acres as a lake (thats a pond here in MN).
And on this site
http://www.knls.org/English/akfact.htm
It states that Alaska has 3 million lakes.
So maybe if on “pick your state slogan day” the Wisconsin delegate wasn’t passed out, you could of had your “land of 15,000 lakes” on your license plate.
Oh and I dont know what road you were driving on, but everyone here speeds…EVERYONE
Ahhhhh, I love raggin on Wisconsinites….
….yes yes Favre is OLD
…yes yes, you have won superbowls (wake up its the 21st century)
…yes yes, you count beer spills as lakes.
Im just havin some fun with ya…but seriously, what is Wisconsins definition of a lake?
