Top 10 Free Agent Signings of All Time
Ok, so I almost was ready to email cnnsi.com and say “what the f are you thinking??” regarding this photo-montage that they just put out of the Top 10 NFL Free Agent Signings of All Time. The obvious choice for me was that Reggie White should be on the list. As I was going through the montage, I didn’t see him… but no worries–it was only because White was last–they consider him the #1 free agent signing of all time. Crazy.
10. Shannon Sharpe
9. Stephen Davis
8. Bryce Paup
7. Sam Adams
6. Rich Gannon
5. Keenan McCardell
4. Priest Holmes
3. Curtis Martin
2. Deion Sanders
1. Reggie White
One other thing I noticed is that they said this list was the top 10 of ALL TIME. Correct me if I’m wrong, but all of the guys on the list were either from the 90’s or 2000’s. So, you’re telling me there were no other significant signings before Deion Sanders? Anyone know?
The year the packers signed Reggie White was the first year of free agency in the NFL.
That’s why they are all recent players.

Reggie White was the biggest name that year in free agency (the first year ever), and there were like 5 teams trying
to get him. And he chose little Green Bay, you know the town where if you are black people walk up to you
and ask you what position you play. But he IS definately the the #1 signing of all time. His
presence in Green Bay is the reason for the team’s turnaround in the 90’s he is the one responsible for
all of the other free agents coming to Green Bay over the years building the championship teams.
