As most you know, WiFi is the in thing and there are a ton of coffeeshops, hotels, and even parks that offer free WiFi. I ran across this article though that shows that not everyone is on top of the free WiFi trend. I agree, they get props for even offering wireless internet at their hotels, but you have to be uber-rich to even think about paying for some of these…
Marriott Flagship: Once again, the Marriott Flagship makes the worst list, partly because of inconsistency across the Marriott brands (Residence Inn, Courtyard and others offer free WiFi) and partly because you need a Ph.D to comprehend the Internet policies at some of their flagship hotels. First off, there’s no free wifi. You can pay $9.99 for 24 hours in the lobby only. Or you choose to do a T-Mobile Hotspot option but $6.99 a minute roam charges apply. In the rooms, you can pay $9.95 for tethered ethernet access which will include any phone calls, local and long distance, that you make. Or you can head down to the business center and get free WiFi on the few computers offered there but will have to wait your turn and then have the next person in line breathe down your neck while you check your email.
Uh… what?
Others on the list are hotels such as the “W” (which Neill and I stayed at in Chicago), the Kor Hotel Group (I’ve never heard of them either), the Four Seasons and the Hyatt. Maybe they charge a lot because the people who stay there can afford to pay $20/minute for internet. I think I’ll just stick with my Comfort Suites.
The best one though, was this place in London… check out this quote:
I’m sat in the Guardian Changing Media Summit, at the Victoria Park Plaza hotel in London, and the wifi is priced as above. Staying in the hotel, it’s £15 for 24 hours. But if you’re down here in the conference room, it’s £10 for 30 minutes. That’s £480 for 24 hours. I believe that’s the hotel equivalent of “Hi! Fuck you!”
Just so you know, that equivalent in US Dollars is £15=$26. £10=$17. and £480=$836. $836!!! Can you believe it?!?! You gotta really want internet to pay that kind of money!!
After attending 3 different concerts last week, I thought it would be cool to make a list of all of the bands/artists that I have seen in concert. Yes, I am ashamed of a few, but I also didn’t realize just how many bands I have seen live. Oh, and I’m not counting bands I have seen on the summerfest grounds (with the exception of the Amphitheater). And obviously, just the “big” bands. (Sorry, Love Monkeys, you don’t count… yet).
Sixpence None the Richer (my 1st concert ever… what better place to go than the Rave!)
Counting Crows
Great Big Sea
Coldplay
Gaelic Storm
Pat McCurdy (ok, maybe he’s not big, but I’ve seen him a million times so he makes my list)
John Mayer
U2
Dave Matthews Band
Jimmy Buffett
Dixie Chicks
Billy Joel/Elton John
Uncle Cracker
What about all of you? What concerts have you seen? Is there anyone you wanted to see and is no longer touring and now you’re kicking yourself for not going when you could have? (For example, Garth Brooks!)
Some of you might have filled this out for me, so you can kind of see the results below. This “window” shows people what I think about myself, and what people think about me. Kind of interesting…

So, from what I can tell, I’m a LOT of different things to different people. Who thinks I’m sentimental? I don’t see that one… the rest, sure. And how come no one said I was shy???
Mark your calendars, ladies and gentlemen!!
Just announced, Jimmy Buffett is coming to Alpine Valley in good ol’ East Troy, Wisconsin this year on Saturday, June 10th. Tickets go on sale Monday, March 13th at 10:00am for the show.
I can’t wait!! I was going through withdrawal last year without him here. Who’s coming with me??
UPDATE: I tried, to no avail, to get tickets for the Alpine show yesterday. Even though I was online, hitting “BUY TICKETS” at 10:00am, I didn’t get anything. Guess he sold out within 60 seconds. That’s all sorts of NOT COOL. Ah well. I’m still there!!
It almost sounds too good to be true…
OSLO, Norway (AP) — It almost seemed like a miracle to Haldis Gundersen when she turned on her kitchen faucet this weekend and found the water had turned into beer.
Two flights down, employees and customers at the Big Tower Bar were horrified when water poured out of the beer taps.
By an improbable feat of clumsy plumbing, someone at the bar in Kristiandsund, western Norway, had accidentally hooked the beer hoses to the water pipes for Gundersen’s apartment.
“We had settled down for a cozy Saturday evening, had a nice dinner, and I was just going to clean up a little,” Gundersen, 50, told The Associated Press by telephone Monday. “I turned on the kitchen faucet and beer came out.”
However, Gundersen said the beer was flat and not tempting, even in a country where a half-liter (pint) can cost about 25 kroner ($3.75) in grocery stores.
Per Egil Myrvang, of the local beer distributor, said he helped bartenders reconnect the pipes by telephone.
“The water and beer pipes do touch each other, but you have to be really creative to connect them together,” he told local newspapers.
Gundersen joked about having the pub send up free beer for her next party.
“But maybe it would be easier if they just invited me down for a beer,” she said.
Hey Tim, that’s like a dream come true for you, isn’t it? Who cares if the beer is flat–probably just tasted like Busch Light.
Ok, so I almost was ready to email cnnsi.com and say “what the f are you thinking??” regarding this photo-montage that they just put out of the Top 10 NFL Free Agent Signings of All Time. The obvious choice for me was that Reggie White should be on the list. As I was going through the montage, I didn’t see him… but no worries–it was only because White was last–they consider him the #1 free agent signing of all time. Crazy.
10. Shannon Sharpe
9. Stephen Davis
8. Bryce Paup
7. Sam Adams
6. Rich Gannon
5. Keenan McCardell
4. Priest Holmes
3. Curtis Martin
2. Deion Sanders
1. Reggie White
One other thing I noticed is that they said this list was the top 10 of ALL TIME. Correct me if I’m wrong, but all of the guys on the list were either from the 90’s or 2000’s. So, you’re telling me there were no other significant signings before Deion Sanders? Anyone know?
My cousin Debbie sent me a picture on this because, and I quote, she think I “like all that weird animal stuff”. Whatever. I don’t know what you’re talking about Debbie.
Anyhow, check this thing out.
PARIS (March
- A team of American-led divers has discovered a new crustacean in the South Pacific that resembles a lobster and is covered with what looks like silky, blond fur, French researchers said Tuesday.
Scientists said the animal, which they named Kiwa hirsuta, was so distinct from other species that they created a new family and genus for it.
The divers found the animal in waters 7,540 feet deep at a site 900 miles south of Easter Island last year, according to Michel Segonzac of the French Institute for Sea Exploration.
The animal is white and just shy of 6 inches long - about the size of a salad plate.
In what Segonzac described as a “surprising characteristic,” the animal’s pincers are covered with sinuous, hair-like strands.
It is also blind. The researchers found it had only “the vestige of a membrane” in place of eyes, Segonzac said.
So, the poor thing not only has to be different from the other lobsters by being white. But it also has to have furry pincers AND be blind. Poor little guy must get made fun of all the time…

One of my biggest complaints when I’m eating an ice cream cone is that I have to take so much energy to turn the cone around to lick it.
Ok, so maybe not. But obviously someone thought that because they came out with this thing! And isn’t half the fun of getting a cone instead of a dish the fact that you can eat the cone? Don’t think these cones are consumable…
Motorized Ice Cream Cone
Takes a licking and keeps ice cream from dripping! Load the removable dish with ice cream, push the button and the ice cream turns while you enjoy one of the world’s most popular treats. No more licking around the edges of a drippy cone. Fun for all ages. Removable dish is dishwasher safe. Requires two double AA batteries (not included).
