Million Dollar Webpage

I heard about this dude on the radio yesterday and his website intrigued me enough to get me to go to his site.

Check that out. This college kid from London, Alex Tew, was looking for a way to pay for college. He was already big into webdesign and figured that banner advertising was always a good way to advertise, but he wanted to be more creative.

So, he decided to sell pixels. Pixels are basically the little squares that make up a computer page. So, he’s selling them on this webpage for $1 a pixel. In order to actually have something worth while though, you’d have to buy 100 pixels (that is what one of those small squares are on the page). If he sells all of the pixels on this page, he’ll make a million dollars. As you can see, he’s still got a lot of empty space, but to his credit, he’s already made $600,000 in just over two months.

It just goes to show what a little national press coverage can get you. On the radio last night, one of the advertisers said that the hits on his webpage have increased 20 fold since he started advertising on there a few days ago. Pretty crazy if you ask me.

Is this guy a genious, or is this just a stupid way to con people out of money? I think if he’s creative enough to think this up and get people to buy into it, then more power to him.
