Savings Cards
Many of you have heard of my friend, Erica, who grew up in a small town in Southwest Wisconsin. Their grocery store out there is called “Dick’s.” Fair enough. Much to my surprise, one day at college, Erica asked me if I had a “dicksack.” I’m like “excuse me?? NO!” Turns out that they just called their grocery bags “sacks”, and therefore, because they were from Dicks, they were called dicksacks. Interesting.
Well, when all of these grocery “savings” cards came out, whoever was doing marketing at Dicks thought they would get a little perverted joke in on the city and see who noticed. It wasn’t called the Dick’s Saver Card or Frequent Dick’s Card. No, they had to call it the “Dick’s Insider” card. Are you kidding me?? I’m sure some people didn’t get the sexual inuiendo in that, but whoever made that card up was probably laughing his/her ass off for quite some time.
Today, I was looking on the Milwaukee County Transit System’s website and their frequent flyer card isn’t quite as bad as the Dick’s Insider card, but it’s right up there. They call theirs the “Rider Insider” card. Actually, the tout it as their “Rider Insider, MCTS’ rider privilege program.”
Worth a good chuckle. Have any of you heard of these before or something along the same lines?
There’s a Beer Store in St. Francis called Pekar Liquors. I’ve also heard of a butcher shop called Becher Meats. I suppose it’s on Becher St., on the south side of town.
