And BOOM goes the Dynamite

Filed under: Plain Ol' Funny Stuff — Tara @ 6:53 am

Brian CollinsI thought I had posted about this video, but for some reason, I guess I passed it over.

Brian Collins, an aspiring sportscaster at Ball State University in Indiana, started walking the path to fame about a month ago when one of his sportscasts was released to the world. Unfortunately for Brian, he’s taking the William Hung route of fame: reaching the top by a HORRIBLE sportscast.

See for yourself: CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO.

It’s the worst video I have ever seen–almost painful. Even though he stumbled through the whole thing, he still managed to get out his token phrase “BOOM goes the dynamite!” Too funny.

Well, today, the Ball State Daily News came out with an article talking about the infamous Collins. Some excerpts:

NewsLink@9 sports director John Duong said the inexperienced Collins volunteered to fill in when none of the other anchors could make it.

“Unfortunately, I put him on,” Duong said.

“From my point of view, I don’t understand why it’s so big. The amount of attention it received, it still shocks me,” NewsLink@9 news director John Pinnick said.

Really??? I mean, our society lives for seeing other people fail–and this is the epitomy of that. That, Johnny boy, is the reason why it’s so big. What do you think?

  1. This was a riot. I listen to Bob and Brian in the morning, and they rip on it daily since it ha[ppened.
I think the guy is a bumbling idiot, and I taught my kids “boom goes the dynomite.” They think it’s funnyt, too.

  2. From a psychological standpoint, you can see that his tie is crooked which leads me to believe it WAS rushed and he hadn’t much practice. There is a tremolo in his voice - which suggests high anxiety. He exasperates and has run on empty in his self esteem tank. He also has unfocused eyes which also tells me he is either #1 not wearing his glasses, or #2 he cannot see teleprompter. Poor guy, reminds me of one of the bench warmers getting a chance to prove to teh team he can do it. But a crash and burn is evident. BOOM, goes the dynamite!

  3. And Boom Goes the Dynamite

Wow, I can’t believe I just heard “boom goes the dynamite” for the first time today. There are 15,800 results for that search phrase on Google.
Pick one of them - any one of them, and watch the video. It’s painful, but funny.

  5. Haha…first I’ve saw of that. As a former aspiring sportscaster I can say that was absolutely
horrifying what he experienced…although for god’s sake adlib son!! I mean if you know sports
enough you can make s*it up as you go along. I once did a college newscast w/o prompter for
sports. It was terrible, although I made some jokes and had a good time and made everyone
laugh except for the one serious anchor who is now a real tv newscaster somewhere in Vermont :)

Anyway that was absolutely hysterical. The dead air followed by the paper shuffling and him
mumbling. It should be on those TV blooper shows. You think the producer would’ve cut in
and said cut to commercial or close up the segment. He was probably laughing the whole time.
I can’t believe that actually happened on live tv. Classic.

Btw feel free to exchange blog links with me…I’ll add a link to yours on my site,
