Legal Brothels?
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Nevada lawmakers are considering a bill that would tax the state’s 28 legal brothels, the only regulated bordellos in the United States.
The brothels pay local taxes and license fees but have never been taxed by the state, which under the bill would impose a 10 percent tax on drinks and food and collect a $2 fee on each customer.
The Nevada Brothel Association backs the bill, but not all bordello owners think it is a good idea.
Ok, WHAT? Brothels are legal in the US? SINCE WHEN??? After college, I lived in a house with 5 other girls, and we nicknamed the house “The Brothel.” But these are REAL brothels. Not only that, but they have a Nevada Brothel Association?
“I’m paying big license fees,” Hof said of the fees he pays to operate two bordellos in Lyon County. “If you had two McDonald’s and sell 50 million hamburgers a year, it would cost you $300. I sell a little bit of sex and it costs me $200,000 a year. That’s enough.”
Gee, buddy, maybe you might want to think about opening up a couple of McDonalds instead, dontchathink?
Is Tim the only person that finds it ok that brothels are legal in the US? Or could you justify it by saying they are no different than strip clubs?
Brothels aren’t legal in the US, other than a few counties in Nevada. I can’t believe you didnt know that! I drive past 3 of them when I drive home to Bishop from Las Vegas. One is called “Angels Ladies”, one is called “Shady Lady” and the other one is called “Cottontail Ranch”. And no I’ve never stopped at any of them, in case you were wondering. I don’t have a problem with them being there though. If truckers want to stop in at a whorehouse for a little action, who is the government to tell them that they can’t?

i thought everyone knew that the state that has SIN CITY had brothels . Why do you REALLY think people go to Las Veags? To gamble. HA HA ha

Justified? May not be the right word, since the profits more then justify them, as far
as I’m concerned they aren’t morale; yeah I’m pretty sure that’s well covered in the Bible.
To answer your question, and this is an understatement; brothels are way different then strip
clubs. First off, they are really laid back about touching in fact they encourage it, second,
they use credit cards instead of ones, third, they are highly regulated, fourth,
the drinks aren’t nearly as expensive, and finally, they have menus…
It’s all down hill from there.
Also, they are legal in Canada, at least in BC, and a whole lot cheaper, fyi.

Tim: I’m concerned about why you know all three names. Well, no. Actually, that sounds just about aright.
Flyte: I’m not everyone.
Matt: I’m concerned that you know that they are legal in Canada. Do you know this from experience?

Tara - What is it about this that you don’t agree with? It’s a regulated industry
that provides a service that people pay for. The girls aren’t forced to work there
and do it by choice. The brothels fill a need in the marketplace and the owners make a good
buck doing it - otherwise they’d go into some other business (like McDonald’s!). Sorry to be
such a raging capitalist, but if they’re operating their business within the rules and
regulations imposed I don’t see what the big deal is.
