The NBA All-Ugly Team

Filed under: Plain Ol' Funny Stuff — Tara @ 11:15 am

You UGLY!
I came across this website today where this guy put together the NBA All-Ugly team. I have seen some ugly dudes, and you might think that there should be some additions, but for the most part I think this guy got it dead on. I mean, I know some of these pictures that were taken were taken at bad times… but for someone like Sam “The Alien” Cassell, your team picture doesn’t count as a “bad time.” You ugly.

Click here to see the entire team.

See any additions or subtractions from the list?

First Loss for Club G’s

Filed under: Wisconsin Sports — Tara @ 8:07 am

Well, Club G’s went ahead and got their first loss of the season out of their system, losing to Aurora Health Care last night, 19-20. It was a slugging battle, with both teams getting on base quite a bit and obviously scoring a lot of runs. I’m sure Tripp’s ego is running high, as he lead the team last night in at bats, home runs (he got one) and RBIs. Way to go Tripp. But keep in mind your “I forgot to grip the ball” throw to home plate when you were about 40 feet away. That’s just sad.

As for myself, it was an ok night. Took a walk and had a solid hit up the middle… hopefully a sign of things to come.

Come check us out next Wednesday, May 4th, at 8:00pm at Sijan Field. We need all the fans we can get!!

Weird Things

Filed under: Plain Ol' Funny Stuff — Tara @ 2:53 pm
Buffalo

Now, I’ve seen some odd pictures… and honestly, there isn’t anything that crazy about a few buffalos that got away from a farm in Maryland. What did strike me as odd/stupid is this:

1. Who knew buffalo could hurdle tennis nets? Isn’t that a skill that must be taught? What kind of “farm” is this??

2. What’s up with the crappy, yellow, blow-up pool that the police put up? Please don’t tell me that’s for the buffalo to “refresh” themselves. I’m no rocket scientist, but from the way the picture looks, there’s no way 1/2 of that buffalo is going to get its rear in the pool.

Anyone have any answers?

26th Birthday Come and Gone

Filed under: Friends and Family — Tara @ 9:21 pm
Michele is a great musian

Well, another birthday has come and gone, and I am officially in my “mid to late 20’s.” That’s just sad saying it. LATE twenties. I’m getting old.

In between my huge pot pie at the Ale House (good thing you didn’t go, Bonnie, that pie caused me to gain a few pounds), lots of laughs at Comedy Sportz (Tripp, I thought you didn’t like to laugh?), and some good eats and brews at the Wicked Hop and Metkes, the night was loads of fun.

You can check out the rest of my pictures here

and Nob’s pictures here.

Another bad performance

Filed under: Plain Ol' Funny Stuff — Tara @ 1:21 pm
Oops--there that goes

Continuing on with my policy of showing you bad videos, here’s a link to another one.

Caroline Marcil, a Montreal native, was supposed to perform both the Canadian and US anthems before a exhibition hockey game between the two countries. The US anthem was first… she started out ok, but quickly forgot the words and ran off the ice to get the words. Not 15 seconds later, she runs back out, falling right on her ass and she just lays there for a few seconds before she got up and left the ice, without singing either anthem.

I actually do feel sorry for the girl–how embarassing… but I couldn’t help but chuckle when I watched the video. Enjoy!

Week 3–Fantasy Baseball

Filed under: Wisconsin Sports — Tara @ 11:20 am

Well, ladies and gentleman. Week 3 brought me my first loss in fantasy baseball. It was a battle all week long, but I lost to Timmy, 5-6. My pitching was amazing, finishing with a 0.84 ERA. That’s virtually unheard of! But pitching can only do so much. The good news is that I still have a 2-game lead and am on top of the league. Let’s check out the highlights:

1. Shen Beets (Tara–last week, #1): 23-10-3
2. Glove Compartment (Jeremy–last week, #3): 21-12-3
3. Jim’s Ass (Jim–last week, #2): 21-14-1
4. Police Chief Wiggum (Babe–last week, #5): 17-16-3
5. Barely Know Her (Tim–last week, #6): 16-19-1
6. Spooners!!! (Tulsa–last week, #5): 14-18-1
7. Who’s On First? (Tripp–last week, #7): 11-21-4
8. Barons (Niti–last week, #8): 10-23-3

All I have to say is Tripp, way to keep up that level of mediocrity. At least you didn’t lose this week–you TIED. And you pulled off a tie versus the last place team (no offense, Niti). NICE WORK!

I play Babe this week and am a little nervous about him, seeing as though he is slowing moving up the league… going from 6th place, to 5th to 4th this week. Should be a good matchup.

Free Coffee for Earth Day

Filed under: Around Milwaukee — Tara @ 10:27 am

For those of you that don’t know, today is the 35th anniversary of Earth Day. A little history lesson for everyone.

In 1970, Gaylord Nelson, then a US Senator from Wisconsin, proposed the first nationwide environmental protest “to shake up the political establishment and force this issue onto the national agenda. ” “It was a gamble,” he recalls, “but it worked.”

On April 22, 20 million Americans took to the streets, parks, and auditoriums to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment. Denis Hayes, the national coordinator, and his youthful staff organized massive coast-to-coast rallies.

Earth Day 1970 achieved a rare political alignment, enlisting support from Republicans and Democrats, rich and poor, city slickers and farmers, tycoons and labor leaders. The first Earth Day led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species acts.

As 1990 approached, a group of environmental leaders asked Denis Hayes to organize another big campaign. This time, Earth Day went global, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting the status of environmental issues on to the world stage. Earth Day 1990 gave a huge boost to recycling efforts worldwide and helped pave the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

As the millennium approached, Hayes agreed to spearhead another campaign, this time focused on global warming and a push for clean energy. Earth Day 2000 combined the big-picture feistiness of the first Earth Day with the international grassroots activism of Earth Day 1990. For 2000, Earth Day had the Internet to help link activists around the world. By the time April 22 rolled around, 5,000 environmental groups around the world were on board, reaching out to hundreds of millions of people in a record 184 countries. Events varied: A talking drum chain traveled from village to village in Gabon, Africa, for example, while hundreds of thousands of people gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., USA.

Ok–History lesson complete–on to the FREE STUFF!!

Starbucks

Because of Earth Day, all Starbucks in the Milwaukee-area today are offering a free 16 oz coffee to anyone that brings in a reusable cup, mug or container. Good to know that any other time of the year that you go in and bring your own cup, you get $0.10 off of your coffee as well.

Oh, and did I mention that Earth Day is my birthday?? :)

Loss in mkeonline.com poll

Filed under: Around Milwaukee — Tara @ 7:51 am

Well, I have joined the ranks of NeillOBrien.com and Heraldblog. I have also lost the “Blog of the Week” poll on mkeonline.com. And I didn’t just lose, I “lost by a significant margin.”

TO THIS BLOG.

Do you think I deserved to lose? What’s so good about this blog? (And by the way, thank you to everyone who did vote for me. I guess you follow a loser blog though. :()

Virgin Mary in Underpass?

Filed under: General — Tara @ 7:47 am

Not to get all religious in my blogging, but this picture caught my eye today on yahoo.

Virgin Mary?

Police said the image might have been caused by stains from road salt that dripped from the Kennedy Expressway onto the wall. But I guess that hundreds of people have been coming to the wall to pay homage to the image of the Virgin Mary on the wall. I think it looks like she is not just standing there, but praying. What do you think?

Pope Benedict the XVI

Filed under: General — Tara @ 10:55 am

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to our new pope–Joseph Ratzinger of Germany, now known as Pope Benedict the XVI.

Joseph Ratzinger

Here’s the bio that cnn.com has on him:

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger
Once the archbishop of Munich and for many years prefect of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, Ratzinger, 78, is one of the most powerful men in the Vatican and is widely acknowledged as a leading theologian. Ratzinger has served for 20 years as John Paul II’s chief theological adviser. As a young priest he was on the progressive side of theological debates but shifted to the right after the student revolutions of 1968. In the Vatican, he has been the driving force behind crackdowns on liberation theology, religious pluralism, challenges to traditional moral teachings on issues such as homosexuality, and dissent on such issues as women’s ordination. The dean of the College of Cardinals since November 2002, he was elevated to cardinal by Pope Paul VI in June 1977.

The downfall is that he probably won’t make any major changes in the Catholic church–he is ultra-conservative. And he’s 78… I don’t know if many popes are “young”… but there were at least a few guys in their 60s that might have been an option.

What do you think after first glance?

And BOOM goes the Dynamite

Filed under: Plain Ol' Funny Stuff — Tara @ 6:53 am

Brian CollinsI thought I had posted about this video, but for some reason, I guess I passed it over.

Brian Collins, an aspiring sportscaster at Ball State University in Indiana, started walking the path to fame about a month ago when one of his sportscasts was released to the world. Unfortunately for Brian, he’s taking the William Hung route of fame: reaching the top by a HORRIBLE sportscast.

See for yourself: CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO.

It’s the worst video I have ever seen–almost painful. Even though he stumbled through the whole thing, he still managed to get out his token phrase “BOOM goes the dynamite!” Too funny.

Well, today, the Ball State Daily News came out with an article talking about the infamous Collins. Some excerpts:

NewsLink@9 sports director John Duong said the inexperienced Collins volunteered to fill in when none of the other anchors could make it.

“Unfortunately, I put him on,” Duong said.

“From my point of view, I don’t understand why it’s so big. The amount of attention it received, it still shocks me,” NewsLink@9 news director John Pinnick said.

Really??? I mean, our society lives for seeing other people fail–and this is the epitomy of that. That, Johnny boy, is the reason why it’s so big. What do you think?

2. Spooner: My hats off to you for sitting 4th in a league full of baseball enthusiasts. Not bad…

3. Tripp: A 3-8 loss brought you up to 7th place. Nice comeback from last week’s spanking.

4. Jim and Jeremy: Game on…

Updates will be forthcoming next week. I take on Tim this week, which shouldn’t be that big of a challenge, seeing the way that he has performed as of late…

Legal Brothels?

Filed under: Rantings and Ravings — Tara @ 3:24 pm

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Nevada lawmakers are considering a bill that would tax the state’s 28 legal brothels, the only regulated bordellos in the United States.

The brothels pay local taxes and license fees but have never been taxed by the state, which under the bill would impose a 10 percent tax on drinks and food and collect a $2 fee on each customer.

The Nevada Brothel Association backs the bill, but not all bordello owners think it is a good idea.

Ok, WHAT? Brothels are legal in the US? SINCE WHEN??? After college, I lived in a house with 5 other girls, and we nicknamed the house “The Brothel.” But these are REAL brothels. Not only that, but they have a Nevada Brothel Association?

“I’m paying big license fees,” Hof said of the fees he pays to operate two bordellos in Lyon County. “If you had two McDonald’s and sell 50 million hamburgers a year, it would cost you $300. I sell a little bit of sex and it costs me $200,000 a year. That’s enough.”

Gee, buddy, maybe you might want to think about opening up a couple of McDonalds instead, dontchathink?

Is Tim the only person that finds it ok that brothels are legal in the US? Or could you justify it by saying they are no different than strip clubs?

911 Joking Around

Filed under: Plain Ol' Funny Stuff — Tara @ 9:34 pm

I heard a clip on the news tonight that I thought I should pass on, because it’s pretty funny.

This lady gets home from work, and finds that her 12 and 14 year old daughters are fighting and kicking in doors. So, she calls 911 and asks for some police to come over and break them up. Obviously, Mom had had enough and was ready for the cops to scare some sense into them.

So, she calls 911 and the dispatcher, Mike Forbess, replies to her by saying: OK. Do you want us to come over to shoot her?”

I got a good chuckle out of it, but the mom was less than amused. You can listen to the 911 tape by clicking here.
