My Pet Peeve of the Day
Don’t think because I have a new job now, that I won’t have pet peeves about work. Oh no…
But the good news is that this isn’t a pet peeve from my new job. I like my new job. Granted, it’s only day three, but I’m still thinking it’s going to work out well.
When I left my last job, I gave a two week notice. It was pretty well accepted, and I told them I would do everything that I could to make sure that whoever they end up hiring as my replacement was not going to go into the position blindly. No, I didn’t get everything done that I had wanted to, but I left the HR person with a list of things I didn’t get to. Me, being the nice person that I am, also gave my phone number to them in case of emergencies and to be that “last resort” when they couldn’t figure out how to do something.
Sure enough, Day 1 comes around, and I get a phone call from my old annoying boss there!! She wasn’t calling to say hi or to see how things were going, she called to find out if I had called someone before I had left.
WHAT???
I’m sorry, last time I checked, this wasn’t an emergency situation. All the lazy b had to do was think about it a little bit, CALL THE PEOPLE HERSELF, and ask if they had spoken to me. THAT’S IT.
So, of course, I don’t give two shits about impressing this lady anymore (down the road, she won’t be giving me a job reference, I had boss higher than her that would), so I wrote her an email, told her the answer, and also told her to basically stop calling me for stupid shit that she could figure out on her own. She got all offended and emailed me back, trying to put the blame on me… get real!! I quit. I’m the one that doesn’t work there anymore. I don’t have to DO ANYTHING nor did I have to DO ANYTHING the last two weeks. A two week notice is a courtesy to my former employer.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRraaaargh. Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else? Am I off-base? Was I too nice?

While I don’t share your “hahahaha!” Bonnie, I think I’m beginning to regret trying to “do the right thing” and I should have just left without giving my number. Damn the bad luck!!

Well, the good thing is that there is no law saying you have to answer or return her phone calls. Let her call and bug you…and if she ever actually has something worthwhile to ask you about, maybe then you can call her back!

Chill, Toenail. Pour yourself a drink. Take a warm bath. Get a dog. I hear Staffordshire bull terrier pups are nice.
