The Best of Dennis Miller on MNF

Filed under: Wisconsin Sports — Tara @ 11:41 am

I came across a website on Dennis Miller the other night when I was looking for a live feed of the Monday Night Football game. I don’t know about you, but I really liked Dennis Miller on MNF. The comedic interludes were quite entertaining, and I was sorry to see him go.

This website though, talks about some of Dennis Miller’s best lines on MNF, and I thought I’d share some of my favorites below.

  • “Everybody’s worried about me using profanity - the only f-word I might say a lot this year is ‘Faulk.’”
  • “The new owner of the New York Jets is Woody Johnson. The New England Patriots have a second-year center named Damien Woody. So Al, as is often the case in life, what it’s probably gonna come down to is who has the better Woody.”
  • “Hey, I’m excited for halftime. We’ve got a midget league football game coming up. I think one of the teams is the Bengals.”
  • “You know Dan, Al and I went out in the Mall of America the other day at the piercing pagoda and we had our nipples pierced.”
  • Referring to Melissa Stark’s mispronunciation of the word success on one of her sideline reports: “Well, you know (Tony) Gonzalez doesn’t mind being 5-7 as long as he’s having a good year sexually.”
  • After Al outlined the playoff implications of the game in the second half: “Albeeno, you’re the only one with the brain capacity to suck all that in … I’m eating a hotdog and Dan is scratching himself.”
  • Anyone else miss Dennis Miller?

What Your Friends Say About You Behind Your Back

Since everyone liked the “name your penis” survey so much, I thought I’d go back to that. I was trying out some new ones, and found this one quite funny.

    Acid Reflux Disease

Filed under: General — Tara @ 12:56 pm

    Ashley Simpson

“Her [Ashley Simpson] manager-father said Monday his daughter used the extra help because acid reflux disease had made her voice hoarse”.

COME ON. You’ve got to come up with something better than that. Of course, this is the first time that Ashley Simpson has ever used a voicetrack in the background too. Riiiiiiiiiight.

My thoughts are that some musicians really aren’t that great of singers. They make it because they know the right people, have famous siblings, or are hot. Ashley Simpson falls into that famous sibling category and this is just proof that she sucks. Anyone can go into a recording studio and put together a track on their album by piecing together 20 different tracks to make one good one. The real talent comes when you only have one chance–LIVE. She blew it.

What do you think of the Ashley Simpson fiasco?

    Favre’s Wife Has Cancer

Filed under: Wisconsin Sports — Tara @ 9:14 am

What a rough year for the Favre family. First, Brett’s dad passes away last December. Then Deanna (Brett’s wife)’s brother dies in an accident a few weeks ago. And now, we find out that Deanna has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Sounds like she is going to be ok after some chemotherapy, but my thoughts are with her and the Favre family. I know how much that sucks.

On the lighter side of this, a few things struck me as being funny from the story above.

  • I did a search on the google.com news tab for “Favre” and the only article that came up on this was from the Mercury News in San Jose, CA. Where is our local online news sources on this?
  • The last three paragraphs had some interesting writing. Like… Deanna is originally from the Kiln.
    “The Kiln?”
So, what they are saying, is that the Favre family is originally from THE “high-temperature oven.” Wow. Not too many people can lay claim to that.

Saluting the Green Bay Packer Fans

Filed under: Wisconsin Sports — Tara @ 12:53 pm

I read an article online today that is one of those “warm fuzzy feeling” articles if you are a Packers fan. With a 3-4 start and what first looked like a dismal season, you have heard more doubt that ever in the voices of Packers fans. But the reality of it still stands. As Wisconsinites, we live and die for our Packers (and a lesser extent, the Badgers). I worked at Target on Sunday during the game, and between 3:00pm-6:30pm, the store was DEAD. That is crazy for a Sunday afternoon. The roads are quiet, and people plan their Sundays around the Packers. The Packers are the only NFL team owned by the fans, and not some corporate yuppy. Even if the Packers end up 1-15, we’ll still be proud Packer fans.

As Wisconsinites, we know this. But it gives that “warm fuzzy” when someone else comes into town and says the same thing.

Ernie Accorsi, senior vice president and general manager of the New York Giants, left Green Bay with a newfound appreciation for the Packers’ culture and fans. He was so moved, he wrote a letter to the Green Bay Press-Gazette to express his feelings.

“I’ve never written a letter to the editor before,” Accorsi said Thursday from his New York office. “But it struck me that, as I near the end of my career, win or lose, this is great. The trip to Green Bay was a great experience.”

“I rarely walk on a field before a game,” he said. “But I went down there and asked this older guy where the quarterback sneak (Bart Starr’s winning touchdown in the 1967 Ice Bowl) was. He said it was right where the R is. I mean, it’s like Cooperstown. I even went to the (Packers) Hall of Fame.”

“When we pulled out of the parking lot,” he said, “the fans were applauding us and waving. These were people in Packers attire. I can tell you, we don’t get that when we pull out after a win in Philadelphia. But these people love their team.”

Yes we do, Ernie… thanks for noticing.

    Go Redskins?

Filed under: General — Tara @ 10:22 am

Looks like I might have to bet against my Packers in their game vs. the Redskins on Sunday, October 31st.

    Get this:
The outcome of Washington Redskins football games has correctly predicted the winner of every U.S. presidential election since 1936.
In the previous 15 elections, if the Washington Redskins have lost their last home game prior to the election, the incumbent party has lost the White House. When they have won, the incumbent has stayed in power.

Translate this into this year, and that game is vs. the Packers and a Redskin win would mean an incumbent party WIN. How can I argue with nearly 70 years of accuracy? To read about every single game in those past 70 years, check out this site.

What do all of you think? Is this just an Urban Legend, or deep down, are you maybe thinking a Redskins win would be good for the country?

    The infamous “it wasn’t mine”

Filed under: General — Tara @ 1:03 pm

Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets was cited for having marijuana in his backpack when he boarded a plane to Milwaukee last week. Carmelo’s response to that?

Well, I guess Carmelo lent his backpack to a friend a few weeks ago (backpacks are so expensive nowadays) and it was the friend who left the bag in the backpack. Carmelo was so surprised to find it in there.

Riiiiiiiiight. Of course it’s not yours. You don’t run with that crowd, huh? You just get in bar fights because someone is picking on your girlfriend, La la.

Does anyone know why Playmakers was cancelled on ESPN? I forget…

    Shame on Flu

Filed under: General — Tara @ 9:53 am

Looks like someone at West Allis Memorial Hospital pulled the boner move of the day.

The hospital was forced to destroy over 2,000 flu vaccines because someone mistaked the vaccines with computer parts, and didn’t refrigerate the right box.

At a time when the big ado is that we have a major shortage of these flu vaccines to begin with, you would think that someone would have taken a little more care to make sure the vaccines are taken care of. Naughty naughty.

Along the same lines, I have heard some stories about the elderly complaining because they have to stand in line for a few hours to get one of these shots. While I agree that they need it more than I do, and they should get it, quit your bitching. 90% of these people are probably retired–what else do you have to do?? Just sit there, get your flu shot, and be thankful that you aren’t being given one of the spoiled vaccines.

    New Orleans Hates McKenzie

Filed under: Wisconsin Sports — Tara @ 10:12 am

Mike McKenzie Good news Packer fans–looks like we aren’t the only ones that think that Mike McKenzie is a jag.

Timmy was checking out the forums on NOLA.com last night to prep for our forthcoming trip down to New Orleans next week, when he came across a thread about Mike McKenzie. Let me share with you some of the Saints’ fans’ sentiments.

Anyway…starting McKenzie this early was a bad idea. It showed his vulnerabilities and it shows just how much smarter the PACKER organization is!

And why was Mike McKenzie brought in? He is no better than what we had already. Just like an old broken down building.

Why should McKenzie need to practice?? He was man to man several times and got burned. There is no practicing man to man coverage when you have been in the league like McKenzie….

Our Boy McKenzie got burned a lot in the game vs. the Vikings this weekend, and he got benched and supposedily ejected from the game for arguing with the coaches.

As mediocre as our secondary is on the Packers right now, I think we’re better off without his drama. See you on Bourbon Street, Mike.
