Newport State Park

Well, I just got back from camping with Neill up in Newport State Park in Door County, Wisconsin. What an awesome time. This campground that we went to was different for me, because you had to hike in. It’s not like one of those places where you just back your car up into your campsite and unload. No, you have to pack all your crap on your back, and walk it in. And we’re not talking a 50 foot hike in… we’re talking a mile. Might not seem like a lot, but when you have a full, heavy cooler, tent, air mattress, sleeping bags, bags, food and other crap that we probably didn’t need, it SUCKS. By the time Neill and I got there, we were dripping with sweat, crabby, pissed off, and sore. The tradeoff though was that the campsite absolutely rocked.
You can see the pictures here in my gallery or in Neill’s gallery if you want to see more… but we were right on Lake Michigan, didn’t have another campsite within view of us, and had an AWESOME view of the celestial sphere (stars) at night. It’s one of those situations where there was no place I would have rather been at that time. Relaxing and peaceful. The only weird thing was Sunday morning. We woke up at around 10:30am to voices, which was weird enough… but then we realized that these people were ON our campsite! We went out there, and find out these are people that are going to be staying at our site after we checked out at the 3:00pm checkout time. I have no idea why they were there early, setting up their tent and staring at us like we were the outsiders… but it was just odd.
During the day, Neill and I went around to the different cities in Door County, including Pennisula State Park and all the little shops in Fish Creek and Egg Harbor.
So, it’s back to work for me tomorrow. I’m sure we’ll end up camping again before the summer is over, so maybe you all should plan on coming with. You’re missing out on an awesome experience!
Jennifer and I camped at Newport the year we were married. I remember lugging a cooler about a mile back into the mosquito infested woods. We never did find our campsite, and ended up pitching a tent in the woods, just as darkness was closing in. But we were rewarded the next morning my a dip in the lake.
Glad you had fun, Torah.

I just call her Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy instead of Torah…works out better that way.

And it flows off the tongue way more easily than “Torah” does.
